Flow and level survey for Sewage Treatment Works Introduction Detectronic Ltd was commissioned to conduct acomprehensive flow and level survey at a SewageTreatment Works (STW) in the UK, serving apopulation of 3000. With flows transferred to theSTW via three end-of-line pumping stations, theobjective was to establish a full understanding of theflow control interfaces of the main process and theexisting hydraulic performance/response of the site. Implementation An 8-week flow survey was conducted, capturing dataacross various dry and wet weather flow conditions.Data was seamlessly transmitted to a cloud-based datamanagement platform, enabling real-time review andanalysis. Thirteen monitors were strategically installedacross nine locations within the plant, each tailoredto monitor specific flow types and installation types. Results The utilisation of the cloud-based data platform facilitatedtimely data review and adjustments, optimising surveyefficiency. Analysis of the collected data providedinsights into the site’s interaction with the local sewernetwork, informing the development of hydraulic andprocess models. This comprehensive approach not onlyenhanced understanding but also laid the foundationfor improving operational efficiency and performance. Key Outcomes Enhanced Understanding: The data collected andanalysed provided a detailed understanding of flowdynamics and site interaction with the sewer network. Improved Efficiency: Insights gleaned from the survey facilitated the development of hydraulic and process models, paving the way for efficiency improvements. Real-time Monitoring: The cloud-based data managementplatform allowed for real-time review and adjustments, ensuring accuracy and reliability throughout the survey. Conclusion Detectronic’s comprehensive flow and level survey at theSTW exemplifies a proactive approach to optimising sewagetreatment processes. By leveraging advanced monitoringtechnologies and data analytics, the project not only providedvaluable insights but also laid the groundwork for ongoingefficiency improvements. This case study underscores theimportance of proactive monitoring and analysis in enhancingoperational performance within sewage treatment facilities. Download Case Study
