Charity Donations for Water Aid Transform Lives Date: 18/02/16 | In: Other News Following a year of fundraising, we’ve donated £1,000 to the Sheffield regional branch of Water Aid, an international charity focused on transforming lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation. Dave Walker went to the Peace Gardens in Sheffield to present the cheque to Erica Lack, a volunteer with Water Aid Sheffield and operational change manager at Yorkshire Water. Explains Dave: “As a business we’ve supported Water Aid for many years in a variety of different ways. During 2015 we purchased copies of Deborah Cadbury’s ‘7 Wonders of the Industrial World’ book as it formed the basis of a presentation I made at the annual Water & Wastewater Treatment Conference in Birmingham. We then sold the books to delegates who also made extra donations as all proceeds from the sales went to Water Aid. “At Christmas, rather than sending corporate Christmas cards we donated the money we would’ve spent and then doubled it as another fundraising effort for Water Aid – the total over 12 months came to £1,000.” Outlines Erica: “We were delighted when Dave contacted us to say he’d like to give the money to Water Aid Sheffield. Although we’re an international charity each region has its own branch that aims to inspire people in the local community, raise awareness of the charity and what we do as well as lobbying local MPs. “Water Aid want Everyone, Everywhere to have access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030. This aim is linked to several of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals including improving water and sanitation, removing poverty and empowering women who are particularly affected by poor sanitation. Detectronic’s donation will certainly support this vital work and will contribute to ensuring WaterAid can support the people who need it most.”
