Water chlorination,  is widely used across the globe to kill off harmful bacteria in drinking water. Prior to putting chlorine in water, diseases such as cholera and typhoid were easily spread.

Chlorine, is the most widely used disinfectant for drinking water and cooling water systems. It is universally added to tap water for its disinfection properties. It’s added at water treatment plants to reduce contaminants,  and used to control microbial growth in distribution networks. When that water is eventually processed at a water treatment plant, the chlorine it still contains has the potential to damage both the carbon filters and, consequently, the RO membrane filters.

RO membrane filters are costly to replace so effective maintenance is vital to increase their efficacy and longevity. The solution is the implementation of the ORAKEL chlorine meter. It can be used as an indicator disinfection has taken place and there’s no excessive chlorine present in the water supply.

The ORAKEL chlorine meter can be specifically used to detect any chlorine in  water before it actually reaches the RO membrane. If the ORAKEL controller identifies any chlorine is present, it will activate and send an alarm. That can be configured to shut off valves to prevent contaminated water reaching the membrane.
