The team here at Detectronic was delighted to host a special Focus Group for the University of Warwick’s Centre for Industrial Ultrasonics (CIU) last month.

Established in 2011, the CIU works with industry members to help them develop new ultrasonic products in a wide field of applications, often assisted by grant funding.

The day’s events commenced with local MP, Nigel Evans, reopening the Detectronic offices and unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Alan Finn from the CIU then welcomed delegates and guests and provided a quick overview of the agenda for the day. This was followed by an introduction from our managing director, Steve Woods, who gave a brief history of Detectronic and our products as well as some of the projects we’re currently working on.

Professor Steve Dixon, director of the Warwick CIU then gave his introduction and explained that he was keen to hear everyone’s opinions during the Focus Group and focus on growing the partnerships between industry and university.

Nigel Evans MP gave a very entertaining speech reflecting on the changes he’d witnessed during his 24 years in parliament. He also talked about how floods had hit his constituency last Christmas. He said he hoped that the “technology and combined experience of universities and companies such as Detectronic will make the advances necessary to make sure that ordinary people don’t lose their livelihoods, possessions and, in some cases, their lives in these sort of disasters in the future.”

The Focus Group concluded at 1pm after much interesting debate and comment and delegates enjoyed a buffet lunch and further networking.
