A surge in job vacancies

Job vacancies have spiked to pre-COVID levels at Detectronic this month according to Personnel Manager Alex Woods.

Data shows that job vacancies have hit their highest level in two years following a significant drop during 2020 caused by the pandemic.

Personnel Manager Alex Woods believes the industry is now starting to move forward, with companies beginning to implement previously delayed plans. The knock-on effect is the creation of a whole host of new opportunities for suppliers.

Commenting on the positive shift, Alex said: “It’s been really busy since January. There’s been a tangible surge in requests for advertising vacancies in our field service team, workshop and data centre.

“There’s no sign of it slowing down any time soon either. I think this is going to be a bumper year for the business with the water companies fuelling the growth.”

However, despite the increase in available jobs, concerns have been raised over stagnation in applications for these positions.

“It’s hard to find good people,” adds Alex. “There are lots of candidates out there with transferable skills that we could train up. If they were interested in moving into the water industry, then hopefully the talent shortages would become a thing of the past.”

Alex remains hugely optimistic about the future of the water industry.

“The candidates, along with our industry, are going to be winners in this. Salaries will increase and demand for skills rise. It’s set to be buoyant market for candidates looking to move in 2021 and that’s certainly reflected in the exciting job opportunities we have here at Detectronic.”
