Dave Walker, commercial director of Detectronic, was ordained Deacon at a special service which took place  at Derby Cathedral on Saturday 26 June 2016.

Dave 46, from Mosborough, Sheffield, became Assistant Curate to the parishes of Dronfield and Holmesfield Team Ministry and now looks forward to the challenge of his part-time role in the Church.

Married to Andrea with three grown up sons, Dave studied Theology at university.  He will now pursue his long-held religious ambition as a self-supporting minister in the Derby diocese following three years studying a BA in Theology.

“I now look forward to my part-time ministry obligations and working with the local community to nurture and encourage new believers and transform unjust structures, which is going to be an interesting and somewhat challenging exercise in the aggressive world of business and commerce.

Along with the other candidates, Dave was presented to the Bishop of Derby, The Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern at the public service at Derby Cathedral.

Being a self-supporting minister means Dave’s role at Detectronic will be unchanged and he will be 100% engaged in developing the growing the business to ensure that customers enjoy all the benefits that a forward-looking dedicated Smart Network Monitoring company can offer.

Guess who dropped in for tea? Dave meets the Archbishop of Canterbury!

As an added bonus, Dave was at an ordination retreat  a couple of days before his special day, when he and his colleagues were greeted by a very special visitor, The Archbishop of Canterbury!

The Archbishop, Justin Welby, gave a short talk and wished us well, encouraging us to enter the ministry with confidence. My comment to him was, “The last time I was this nervous was 23 years ago when I was getting married to Andrea!” said Dave.”

Everyone at Detectronic wishes Dave well as he takes up his part-time role in the Church of England.
