Dave’s Flood Relief For Dinajpur

You may recall that our commercial director, Dave Walker, was invited to take part in a pilgrimage to Durgapur in India earlier this year by the Bishop of Derby.

Whilst in India, Dave met with the Right Revd. Dr. Probal Kanto Dutta, Bishop of The Diocese of Durgapur and the two became firm friends. So, when he received an email from the Bishop last month informing him that excessive rain during July and August, coupled with high tides and water released from several rivers had caused extensive flooding in the Dinajpur region of West Bengal, Dave wanted to take immediate action.

Explains Dave: “The email outlined that the situation in the region was “grave” with over two million people affected, 5,103 villages under water and 300,000 people rendered homeless.

“Moreover, the flood waters arrived just as the harvest was about to begin and completely destroyed most of the crops resulting in a real shortage of food coupled with the very real threat of cholera and typhoid.”

Concludes Dave: “We’re now working with the Bishop and relief teams over in Dinajpur to raise funds to purchase food items such as rice, lentils, oil, salt and vegetables for everyone affected by these devastation floods. As such, I’ve set up a JustGiving page to make it as easy possible for people to donate and help. Many thanks in advance for your support.”
