Business growth averaging 35% YOY with new contract wins

Detectronic, specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of ultrasonic wastewater flow and level monitoring equipment for the water industry, has moved to new premises and recruited three new people to its team.

Following several new contract wins over the last 12 months, the £2 million turnover firm outgrew its previous premises in Nelson, Lancashire and has relocated to Whitewalls Industrial Estate in Colne.

The move, which represents a £500,000 investment, brings all Detectronic’s operations under one roof and provides further room to expand. The 7,000 sq ft building houses dedicated production, engineering and administration facilities, combined with a brand new Data Centre.

Explains Steve Woods, managing director of Detectronic: “When we started out in 2007 we had a 500 sq ft office and a staff of five. Seven years later with average growth of 35 per cent year-on year, we’re up to 24 employees and we’re actively recruiting.

“Our Data Centre is a key growth area. As we handle, analyse and report on increasing volumes of data for our growing list of clients we are constantly expanding and developing these services. As such, we’re always looking for experienced data analysts to join the team.”

Continues Steve: “The premises used to house the computer centre for a well-known bank brand so the ideal infrastructure was already in place to support the continuing growth of our data business. We have a back-up generator (with fuel reserves for two weeks) that can power the whole site and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for our servers and computer systems. This supports our highly specialised infrastructure including multiple servers and provides secure, resilient hosting and delivery of client data.

“We also have a purpose-built hydraulics lab which houses our newly constructed reference Flow Channel specifically designed for research and development. It will also be used to calibrate and demonstrate our velocity systems and flow meters, helping clients to understand them first hand.”

Concludes Steve: “As we increase our asset base, develop our overseas activities and continue to secure new contracts here in the UK, we will focus on further growing the business and creating new, local job opportunities.”
