NEXT GENERATION WASTE-WATER LEVEL MONITORING

Every day, Water and Sewerage Utility companies face the challenge of managing their network assets remotely. Accurate, low-cost waste-water level monitoring in sewer networks has not been possible until now. To solve this problem, Detectronic has developed a new sensor which measures level and depth effectively in a smart way.

LIDoTT® is a next generation water level sensor. It integrates ultrasonic level, pressure depth and temperature sensors into one compact device to deliver high-quality data throughout normal dry weather operating conditions and either wet-weather or blockage induced high-level or surcharge conditions.

On rising and falling water levels, LIDoTT® seamlessly transitions from ultrasonic level measurement to pressure depth measurement and back again – delivering continuous waste-water level monitoring data.

Designed for convenience

LIDoTT® is simple to install and ultra-low maintenance by design. It requires no external atmospheric breather for its pressure-sensor. The enclosure is moulded from a carefully selected, resilient, naturally self-cleaning plastic polymer and is submersible. ATEX and IECEx certified Zone 0. Available in a range of configurations, it can be installed at the bottom of the chamber close to the point of measurement or when appropriate, close to the manhole cover – making it an ideal solution for widespread deployment in sewer networks, in domestic sewer manholes and throughout other water courses.

Continuous measurement

When the sewer network is stressed during storm weather events or by blockages, the LIDoTT® Sensor automatically switches sensor mode from ultrasonic (level) to pressure (depth) as the liquid level rises, seamlessly delivering high-quality network management data. This transition is transparent to the external monitoring or datalogging device as LIDoTT® delivers only a single Depth data channel.

LIDoTT® delivers seamless transition from Level measurement – using its Ultrasonic sensor, to Depth measurement – using its Pressure sensor. The pressure-sensor is activated and measures rising depth before its Ultrasonic sensor’s blanking distance (dead-band) is reached.

How it works

As the liquid level rises, the ultrasonic sensor is in charge. Once the level reaches the bottom of the pressure sensor, pressure reading starts and a calibration sequence begins. By the time the level enters the ultrasonic dead-band, the calibration sequence is complete and the calibrated pressure sensor takes over, delivering continuous, accurate depth data.

The LIDoTT® Sensor communicates using a number of serial protocols including Modbus and will connect to many compatible data loggers.

Benefits

By utilising its level and pressure sensors to measure depth continuously in real-time, LIDoTT® can detect subtle changes in depth caused by movement of silt or minor blockages. Sewer cleansing regimes can now be managed more effectively because of the accuracy of this data. LIDoTT® can also react quickly to changing water levels when there are blockages, meaning operators can direct field teams to problem areas quickly and prevent flooding and pollution events.

  •  Real time waste-water level monitoring helps you better understand your sewer network
  • Automatic sensor switching enables continuous delivery of high quality network management data and no deadband effect
  • Narrow beam angle on level sensor
  • Works with Detectronic and other manufacturers datalogger/modem systems
  • Modbus communications support RTU connectivity
  • ATEX and IECEx Zone 0 certified

The LIDoTT® solution reduces management costs and improves quality of service for both the water utility and the general public.
